To record your video as a Vlogger, you’ll need a few tools. You can live without some things, but you can’t live without others. A tripod is unquestionably one of them. A tripod will help you get solid and cinematic shots for your next YouTube video, whether you’re shooting on the fly or in the studio.
Tripods are a great and inexpensive solution to improve the functionality and quality of your Vlogs. The days of stacking books as a Tripod or balancing it on a desk are long gone. So, how does a tripod assist you? Simply mentioned, a tripod will usually allow you “the creator” more reach when recording yourself or your surroundings, making this a fairly simple task.
So, after recording dozens of videos and learning from other YouTubers, I’ve come up with this. When I began researching for this book, I kept an eye out for the following characteristics. While I followed the normal criterion, I also kept an eye out for different sorts of tripods, as I am aware that YouTubers have a variety of recording styles and videos.
Functionality: When looking for a great Vlogging tripod, this is by far the most crucial factor for me. It might seem nice and cool, but if it doesn’t help me make better videos or make my life easier, it’s not worth it. It’s simply not worth it at that point. As a result, I’ve only chosen Vlogging tripods that have proven to be quite useful.
Compatibility: Nothing is more frustrating than purchasing new equipment only to discover it is incompatible with your camera. As a result, I chose tripods with a common thread that would work with practically all DSLRs, small cameras, and GoPros. If necessary, there is also the option to swap out.
We tend to follow the story or narrative wherever it leads us as YouTube creators. As a result, we need a tripod that can travel with us without taking up too much space or weight. In addition, for those who plan to record in a controlled atmosphere or studio, I’ve added more heavy tripods.
Durability: After numerous years of producing video content, I’ve discovered that my equipment comes and goes. However, I still have a few well-made and designed objects in my possession. As a result, I’ve only included goods that will provide you with a lot of mileage and a product that you can rely on to create your videos.
Price: When shopping for video equipment, the bill can quickly mount up! To avoid this, I’ve included tripods that combine all of the aforementioned features without breaking the bank. This means you’ll have more cash in your pocket! So, that’s the end of my section criteria. Let’s get started with the gear!
1. Joby GorillaPod Tripod with Ball Head
You’ve probably seen this tripod if you’re a fan of Vloggers like Casey Neistat or Roman Atwood. It’s the iconic Joby GorillaPod, a tripod that looks like an octopus. Please bear with me while I explain…
It may be shaped and bent to fit any surface, item, or position instead of having ridged straight legs. As a result, it is one of the best Vlogging tripods because it can be utilized in a variety of scenarios.
The JOBY GorillaPod is made of tough ABS Medical-Grade Plastic with rubber rings around the legs and clutches at the foot to ensure maximum stability for your photos, regardless of which of the tripod’s many features you want to use. The GorillaPod 3K PRO Kit is for today’s multimedia creators who want to leverage cutting-edge technology.
The GorillaPod Stand and the Ballhead 3K PRO are both marketed separately, giving the new generation of vloggers more options. The ball head’s Arca-Swiss unity allows you to utilize the same plate on your DSLR across many support systems.
While the Joby is known for its versatility, one of the most common reasons Vloggers use this Joby GorillaPod is for the increased reach it provides while recording in the selfie-style format.
This allows a creator to obtain more in frame and recording with more margin for mistake. Especially if you’re shooting with a wide-angle lens. Another plus is that you can easily adjust this tripod to any surface, which is great for Vlogging on the go.
The SwitchPod is a Kickstarter campaign-funded product. It received a lot of support and rapidly became a popular tripod among YouTubers and Vloggers.
The SwitchPod is a cross between a hard three-legged tripod and a Joby GorillaPod in many aspects. When using a rapid motion, the articulating legs open and close swiftly, allowing a YouTuber to transition from a Vlog style recording to a tabletop tripod in under a second.
The tripod can be adjusted in a variety of ways. If you wish to do one-handed vlogging, you may remove two of the three legs. This tripod’s collapsibility and portability are big advantages.
When you’re ready to shoot, you can conveniently store it in a bag or pocket and rig it up in seconds. Plus, it’s simply so stylish! One of the Switchpod’s outstanding qualities is its deliberate design and high-quality stance. This product’s inventors promise that it will be valuable not only for photographers but also for filmmakers.
There’s a large knob at the bottom of the mounting component that you can spin to tighten your camera or attachment without having to twist the camera or accessory directly.
After manipulating the legs of bendy tripods or trying to get the swivel head parallel, we’ve all spent far too much time trying to find the correct equilibrium. This product solves the issue. It’s easy to use and lets you lay your camera flat.
3. Manfrotto Compact Action Tripod
The next item on my list is a great tiny tripod that is better suited to studio/travel YouTubers.
This Manfrotto Action Tripod is a great place to start if you’re looking for a compact, light, and highly versatile tripod. This tripod is incredibly portable and easy to carry on flights and the road, weighing only 3.05 pounds (1.3 kg). It’s perfect for travelers or anyone who enjoys being active with their camera because it’s such a lightweight tripod.
Despite being a lightweight tripod, it has enough strength to accommodate heavier cameras. This Manfrotto Action Tripod, for example, could easily support a mirrorless or medium-sized DSLR camera like the Canon 70D or 80D.
With a shorter handle and a loosening and tightening wheel, the compact action tripod allows you to move about for the best angle and view.
The tripod’s head has a Photography Mode, which photographers will like. When triggered, the ball joint is unlocked, allowing for a wide range of motion that approaches 360 degrees, allowing you to create some truly unique viewpoints and compositions.
It also has a Video Mode, which lets you move the head in the tilt and pan movements required for shooting landscapes, lateral movements, and other photographs. The joystick head with a scroll-wheel locking mechanism is another great feature. This enables you to move in a 360-degree panorama, which is great for tracking pictures. When contrasted to a ball head configuration, it’s also a lot more fun to use.
This tripod easily gets the top rank on my list, and I would recommend it to any new or veteran Vlogger.
4. Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W Fluid Head Tripod Kit
A fluid head is virtually a must for producing great-quality cinematic video since it delivers that buttery footage we all want. Fluid head tripods are used by several good YouTubers, including MKBHD, for smooth panning images. When it comes to the Manfrotto MHXPRO-2W, the panning motion is exceptionally smooth and has just the proper amount of drag.
The attached head features two fluid drag settings for better tilts and can accommodate up to 8 pounds of camera and equipment. The quick-release camera plate allows you to quickly remove your camera from the helmet when you need to move quickly.
The aluminum legs have a 10-inch diameter and a triangular-shaped central column that adds height while maintaining torsional stability. Because of the spreader’s leg design and independent leg height adjustment, the legs may be utilized on uneven terrain without swaying like ground-level spreaders. In four preset locking positions, the legs can be lowered to around 7.5 inches. You can go high or near to the ground with the optional ground-level adaptor.
Another great feature of this unit is its sturdiness. This is especially critical if you want to use a larger camera with a huge lens. Having that extra stability provides a great deal of peace of mind. The sturdy aluminum body enables consistent and level shots. That’s why it made our list of the finest Vlogging tripods.
5. Manfrotto 504HD, 546BK Video Tripod Kit
If you’re looking for the gold standard in top Vlogging tripods, this could be the one for you. Many professional YouTubers/ Vloggers, such as MKBHD, use the Manfrotto 504HD.
This Manfrotto set includes the 504HD Head, the 546BK Tripod, and the 197 Camcorder Case. The two-stage aluminum 546BK pro video tripod and the groundbreaking 504HD fluid video head form a sturdy, adjustable combination when used together. The camera sets can withstand up to 16.5 pounds of weight.
This small system provides 75mm ball-based support that is sturdy and stable. You get a 4 step counterbalance configuration with this Manfrotto 504HD Tripod, which gives great stability and quick setup. With the ball Bearing drag system, you can also achieve great smooth pans and cinematic images with this tripod.
This tripod is on the higher end of the price spectrum, but you get great craftsmanship and capabilities that will allow you to really boost your video game.
If you’re considering purchasing this Vlogging tripod, having a professional camera to use with it may be worthwhile.
After all, for your Vlogs, you don’t need the most costly or attractive tripod. What matters most is that you select a product that best meets your demands, whether you’re producing a trip channel, a car channel, a food channel, or a daily Vlog!
